Product Features Requires soldering pin 8 super bright and colorful LED Strung together or use only one A fun and simple Arduino project Arduino, breadboards, etc. are not included. Only  stick included. product description Use your  LED stick to make your own small LED array. Adafruit fills eight of the small 5050 (5mm x 5mm) smart RGB LEDs onto a PCB with mounting holes and a linkable design. Only use one microcontroller pin to control as many links as possible! Since the driver chip is located inside the LED, each LED can be addressed. Each has ~ 18mA constant current drive, so even if the voltage changes, the color will be very consistent, and does not require external resistance resistor, the design is more slim. The whole thing is powered by 5VDC (4-7V working) and youre ready for rock. The LED is "linkable" by connecting the output of one joystick to the input of another joystick - see the photo above. There is a data line with a very time-specific protocol. Because the protocol is very time sensitive, it needs a real-time spinner such as AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed and more. It can not be used with Linux-based microcomputers or interpreted microcontrollers such as netduino or Basic Stamp. These pixels are supported by the library that Adafruit has written for Arduino! Because it requires manual tuning of the assembly, it can only be used with the AVR core, but others may have ported this chip driver code so please surround Google. 8MHz or faster processor is required. Comes as a single stick with 8 individually addressable RGB LEDs for assembly and testing.
