Panasonic's AMG8833 thermal imaging camera sensor is an 8x8 infrared thermal sensor array. When connected to your microcontroller (or Raspberry Pi), it will return a set of 64 separate infrared temperature readings via I2C. It's like a fancy camera, but it's compact and simple, and easy to integrate. The AMG8833 is Panasonic's next-generation 8x8 thermal infrared sensor and offers higher performance than the previous AMG8831. The sensor only supports I2C and has a configurable interrupt pin that can be triggered when any single pixel is above or below the threshold you set.

The AMG8833 thermal imaging camera measures temperature from 0°C to 80°C (32°F to 176°F).

The accuracy is + - 2.5 ° C (4.5 ° F). It can detect humans from distances as far as 7 meters (23) feet. With a maximum frame rate of 10 Hz, it is ideal for creating your own body detector or mini camera. We use this breakthrough code on Arduino or compatible (sensors communicate via I2C) or on Python's Raspberry Pi. On the Pi, with the image processing help of the SciPy python library, we can insert 8x8 meshes and get some very good results!
